Secondly, these out of state agencies were using a Non-Admitted company to insure B&B’s, meaning that the company is not licensed or regulated by North Carolina. Therefore, the NC Department of Insurance has no jurisdiction or ability to help if you have any problems with the company. Third, these companies often charge an inspection fee, as much as $300, before they will write the policy. Lastly, these policies often were written in an inflexible format, with strict limitations on Replacement Cost coverage, and rarely was a payment plan offered.
