Agritourism - what an excellent concept! As profits continue to fall and expenses rise on farms across the country, many entrepreneurial-minded farmers have discovered agritourism to be an enjoyable and cost-effective way to bring new revenue onto their farm. These operations can vary in size and scope, but nearly all involve an educational element, as well as an outlet for adults and children to get hands-on experience in a farm setting.
From our point of view, agritourism offers a tremendous opportunity for all parties involved. Farmers are able to add a new source of income as well as share their greatest resource – knowledge. Meanwhile, the general public has access to agricultural education in an exciting and interesting environment. Children are able to exit the classroom and see where their food comes from – it’s scary and sad to see how many say “Wal-Mart,” until they have the chance to learn better.
Regrettably, a lack of understanding and appreciation makes finding insurance for these operations problematic, if not downright difficult. Often times, when coverage can be found, it is either too restrictive, too expensive, or both.
At Johnson Insurance, we understand the agritourism industry. We are members of the NC Agritourism Networking Association, and have worked successfully with operations of varying sizes to find appropriate and affordable insurance coverage.
We have the experience and expertise to guide you through the insurance process, offering recommendations about premises and operational safety, as well as guidance about opportunities to reduce your risk, which means lower insurance premiums.
